Short assessment (reply to a student) - Software Engineering

Discussion question:

Creating a customer service program -

Imagine a small shop wants to improve customer service. Customers can ask questions, place orders, and request changes. Sometimes orders are missed or incorrect.

👉 If you were designing a system to manage these requests, what features would you include? How would you handle errors and make the system easy for customers to use? Relate your answer to error handling and user-friendly interfaces in programming.

Students answer:

If I were setting up a customer service system, I’d prioritize the UI being extremely simple and straight forward as to not create even more stress for the customer. I’d want to include buttons that take them through prompts to more buttons so they can find what they need, almost like a funnel. For example, “I would like to order an item” to “which kind of item?” to “what color?” to “how many?” and so on. Each button would prompt the customer for input.

Discussion question:

Improving a small business process -

Imagine a small business is struggling with inefficiencies—orders take too long, tasks are unclear, and employees often duplicate work.

👉 If you were asked to redesign one core business process (sales, operations, or internal communication), what would you change? How would your approach improve efficiency, reduce mistakes, and support better decision-making?

Student answer:

If I were improving a business process, I’d focus on clearly defining roles and creating a simple, repeatable workflow. Each step would have an owner so responsibilities aren’t confused. I’d also use basic tracking tools so managers can see where delays happen and fix issues quickly.

Short assessment (reply to a student) - Psychology

Discussion question:

Imagine a small workplace team is struggling with low productivity—people feel unsure about expectations, motivation is inconsistent, and misunderstandings often lead to repeated mistakes.

👉 Using concepts from psychology (such as motivation, social influence, or decision-making), what would you change to improve how the team works? How would your approach improve clarity, reduce errors, and support better decisions?

Student answer:

I would focus on psychological factors like role clarity and motivation. Clearly defining expectations can reduce uncertainty and stress, which often hurt performance. I’d also introduce regular feedback so employees understand how they’re doing and feel more motivated to improve. This approach would help people make better decisions and work more efficiently as a team.

Your perspective on Maestro as a new AI college

Maestro is building a new kind of AI college. Do you think it’s possible to build an “AI college” that truly works? What should it do differently than traditional colleges? What do you think is the hardest part (e.g., curriculum freshness, outcomes, student support, community)?
